If you’re like me and most of the population, it’s difficult to stay motivated when you’re exercising. I’m a big fan of bike riding as a form of exercise, mostly because it also allows me to run errands while I do it. I just strap on my backpack and head down to the grocery store, the post office, or the pharmacy. It’s something I’d have to do regardless, and I figure it’s better that I’m exercising at the same time.
But when it comes to more recreational exercise, I need something that drives me, other than the eventual goal of being more fit. I saw a cyclist on the trail with a Garmin GPS device mounted on his bike, and asked him how he used it. This revealed that the GPS device, the Garmin Edge, wasn’t just a GPS device, it was actually a personal trainer. The Edge helped him navigate the trails, and also had a heart rate monitor and a cadence sensor that helped him to achieve his fitness goals. Within a week, I had my own Garmin Edge, and it’s like having my own personal trainer that keeps me motivated on the trail; it’s great!
